Changes

Whilst we were doing the specific finishing touches on our editing we decided that the ending of our opening sequence didn't flow well enough into what would be the main film. The writer drinking out of the mug was, described in our audience feedback as a bit of an anti climax.

After a group discussion we came to the descission that we needed to film another short scene. We initially thought about doing an extra shot of our model walking down the street from her photoshoot, however because of bad weather conditions and prior commitments we could not film her. Furthermore we didn't want to keep switching consistantly between her and his world as we felt this looked ammature. We finally came to the conclusion of filming our Writer coming out of his house. With this shot  we wanted to create an elipses. We will do this predominently by a change of clothes.

A common convention of Rom-Coms is to vary the source of the music, often this is done by switching between diegetic and non diegetic. When our Writer is walking out of his house the music from the previous shot (Bright Soul) will create a sound bridge. The music at the begining of our new shot will be non diegetic however it will switch to diegetic as the he takes his head phones out of his ears. When he does so- the music (now diegetic) will be quiter and more muted to ensure that the audience recognises that it is coming from his head phones.

Audience Feedback

The opening to our Rom-Com is almost done! We are now at the point where it is just the small details that need to be amended. Our group decided that it would be useful and progressive to ask a selection of our target audience to view it and give us their feed back:

During one of our lessons we also asked some year 13 media students to view our opening as we thought they would have a more specified feedback for us. They are also are target audience so it would be more audience research. We bullet pointed their comments and suggestions after;

  • The shot of the kettle was too long and needed to be shortened

  • The longer poses of our female character needed to be slightly shorter

  • The transition from the polaroid photograph to 'real life' needed to have further adjustments for to improve the continuity

  • The editing on the beat was done well

  • There was a good use of titles

Next lesson we will begin to take these aspects into consideration and alter our opening accordingly. By doing this we not only improve it but it tailors it increasingly to our target audience as a selection  of them have had direct imput into it.

Editing

We started editing today!

The footage was already imported onto our Mac so we went straight into editing. We used IMovie rather than Final Cut as none of our footage or effects from our storyboard required the extra detail.

The Making of 'Pose and Prose' and Health and Safety

As we were filming we identified the Health and Safety risks that we previously mentioned. We also kept a sort of video diary of the behind the scenes and perparation.
